Riverside Gallery is pleased to present ‘Comfort and Confidence in Past and Present’, a special

exhibition that brings together the artwork of world-renowned European artists side by side

with highly esteemed contemporary and modern Korean artists. With over 50 pieces of

artwork, this exhibition captures the artists’ passion and will through their own style of artistic

expression. Despite the abstractness, their work allows people to have an approachable

appreciation and understanding for art.

The exhibition includes original etchings and lithographs of Joan Miro, whose work is

characterized by colorful organic forms; surrealist painter Salvador Dali; and Marc Chagall, who

is particularly revered by many Koreans. You can also find the creative work of Nam June Paik,

who is known as the first “video artist”; Kyu Baik Hwang, a well-established painter; and Kyung

Sung Lee, who is known as an art critic, museum director, and a painter. A commonly shared

Korean sentiment can be found in their artwork. You will also enjoy Kyung Youl Yoon’s abstract

paintings, which were inspired by nature; Won Sook Kim’s story-based paintings; and Jong Rim

Song’s glass bead works. Riverside Gallery hopes that the exhibition ‘Comfort and Confidence

in Past and Present’ will inspire an appreciation for European modern art and contemporary

Korean art at the same time.
