Kyu-Baik Hwang was a distinguished painter and printmaker active during the early and mid-20th century, born in Busan, South Korea, in 1932. After serving in the military, Hwang pursued a career in art, joining the renowned artist groups Shin Jo Kyung and Shin Sang. As a master of mezzotint and intaglio printing, Hwang's works are expertly crafted and exude the ominous sensuality of monotonous objects through the artist’s unique sense of color and composition. His works are recognized worldwide, as he has exhibited more than fifty one-man shows in London, Paris, Florence, Vienna, Boston, and New York. His works have consistently sold at auction.

Tomoe Yokoi , born in Nagoya, Japan, in 1943, she and Kyu Baik Hwang were in the same circle of artists, who respectively influenced one another's genius.
